Brain Games

Games that will sharp your mind

Sudoku
A person solving a sudoku puzzle.
Sudoku is a very famous japanese number-placement puzzle.
The objective of this puzzle is to fill a 9x9 grid with digits, in order that each row, each column and each of the nine 3x3 sub-grids that compose the grid, contain all the digits from 1 to 9.
There is just one more restrition. An integer may not appear twice in the same row or column or in any of the 3x3 sub-grids.

It's been proven that solving sudoku puzzles helps to stimulate your mind. It improves your memory and may aid in delaying the effects of aging.

Sudoku can be a lot of fun since there are a lot of books with sudoku puzzles ranging from very easy to very hard. If you are already a good sudoku solver I recommend you to read books with advanced solving tecnhiques. It will allow you to complete those really hard puzzles.

I suggest to do at least three games each day increasing the difficulty over time.

Kakuro
A person solving a kakuro puzzle.
Like Sudoku, Kakuro is a japanese logic game that is becoming more famous as time passes.
A Kakuro puzzle is usually a 16x16 grid. Not taking into account the top row and leftmost column, the grid is divided into entries, which are lines of white cells, by the black cells. Those black cells contain a diagonal slash going from the upper-left to the lower-right and a number if each of the halves. The digits of an horizontal entry must sum up to the value of the black half-cell to its left and the digits of a vertical entry must sum up to the value of the black half-cell immediately above it.
Each white cell can only be filled with digits from 1 to 9.

As you might have guessed, Kakuro stimulates a lot your mind! Like Sudoku it improves your logical reasoning.
However, Kakuro improves your math skills as well, since it requires you to do decompositions of numbers in possible sums.

I suggest to do at least three games each day increasing the difficulty over time.

Brain Teasers

Brain Teasers can improve your cognitive power!

Solving Brain Teasers is one of my favourite ways to improve my cognitive skills!

It's really incredible how a simple Brain Teaser can stress almost all parts of your brain!
You need to be creative to find the answer; you need to use your memory to recall some past facts; you need to use logical reasoning, and so on...

Other cool benefit of solving Brain Teasers is the fact that a lot of companies use them in their interviewing process. If you are already used to solve Brain Teasers it will be much easier for you to solve the new ones that they might ask you.

But what I really love about Brain Teasers is the fact that you can tell them to all your friends and watch them suffer while trying to reach out for the answer! It's incredible how much fun it can provide!

Who would have thought that you could get fun and a great job while trying to be a genius, hum?

Learning a New Language

The definitive Brain Booster!

I left for last what I believe to be the biggest Brain Booster that exists!

Learning a new language brings you enormous benefits:
- It sharps your memory since you will need to memorize a lot of words and its meaning.
- It improves your logical reasoning since you will have to think how to form the sentences in the new language.
- It will improve your understanding of your native language.
- It's proven that bilinguals perform bettern in cognitive tests.

My goal is to learn a new language every two years!
I study it until I'm confident enough to travel to a place where the language is spoken and be able to stay the whole trip without needing to use the English language.

So... What are you waiting for learning a new language?
